My Teaching Philosophy
In my music classroom, I envision a vibrant and positive space where students embark on a journey of musical exploration and personal growth. My mission as an educator is to cultivate a deep appreciation and passion in all students so that everyone, no matter their path, develops a lifelong love of music.

Central to my vision is the creation of a safe and nurturing environment where every student feels valued and empowered to participate in music making, regardless of their level of commitment or prior experience. I believe that music is for everyone, and strive to foster a sense of belonging and confidence in each student. In my classroom all you need to succeed is courage.

My curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in musicianship skills, encompassing scales, sightreading, rhythm, and solfege. I believe that the choral classroom should stretch beyond the learning of repertoire, and that these skills create holistic musicians that are fully equipped to independently, or in the classroom, continue their musical journey.

In addition to a comprehensive curriculum, I am passionate about selecting repertoire that is both current and relevant to students' lives, while also introducing them to music that may be less familiar or less represented, but equally enriching. By creating connections between diverse musical styles and experiences, I hope to inspire curiosity and broaden students' musical horizons.

At the heart of my classroom are principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. I strive to make intentional decisions to ensure that our curriculum, teaching practices, and program activities are culturally responsive and representative of the diverse perspectives and identities within our community.

In my music classroom, I strive not only to cultivate musicianship but also to foster empathy, understanding, and respect through the universal language of music. Together, we celebrate the power of music to unite, inspire, and transform lives.
